WELLINGTON WEDDING | THE LODGE, PAUATAHANUI | EMMA + GLEN

They had booked their wedding on the 15th of March this year. We had been exchanging e-mails and text messages probably since they officially got engaged when she asked us to be their photographers. We had talked about how he proposed  and how she said yes, their plans after their wedding and even where they’re planning to go on honeymoon. We both got carried away by too much excitement that she never realized that she had never told me their wedding date and that I had never actually asked.  Big mistake.

When we finally met so they can sign the contract, that was when it was revealed and because Emma is not just “another bride”, my heart was really breaking inside when I had to tell them that we had been booked on their wedding date. All I could say was how sincerely sorry I am for not asking and all she can say was the same, for completely forgetting.

We left that meeting with the heaviest heart.

The following day, my phone rang and it was her on the other line. They called the venue first thing in the morning and asked to move their wedding on our next available date. That almost brought me to tears. That humbled my heart. That, too, taught me a lesson.

It was on the 15th of March when the cyclone hit the country. That was their original date. The 5th of April was probably the best day of April. That was when they finally married each other.

Dear Emma and Glen, when I stood behind the microphone on your wedding, that was because I and Meeko had so much gratitude to you both and so much appreciation to you and your family, Emma. We feel really honoured to have been part of two very special occasions in your family’s life. The wedding of your brother, Mark and your wedding this time. Thank you for the enormous trust you have given us by having us on your wedding day. The part we played was so little but the happiness it brought our hearts was just overwhelming. Thank you too for patiently waiting for this. Now you have something that can just take you back to what I am sure is your favourite day. We had so much fun and I am sure all your guests did too, even that one that came uninvited. We made sure we took a photo of him as well.

From us, the best of blessings to you both.
