The drive over the hills of Rimutaka that morning was a pleasant one. It seemed shorter than usual and for some reason felt less winding too. The sun was out and the skies were surprisingly blue. After getting coffee and a deep-fried scone at one of Greytown’s iconic cafe, we drove a bit more to Masterton and arrived at the boys’ well in time. It was a good start to what seemed like a really good day.
As we drove to see the girls where the ceremony will be held, the blue skies turned grey, started drizzling and then almost poured. They had to make a call. Luckily there was a Plan B. The spot where the ceremony was supposed to be is in a corner of his Aunt’s garden. It would have made a pretty backdrop. “We will have to do it in the garage.”, they announced. Garage didn’t sound like a pretty alternative but these two you see, they have a strong village behind them. And their village made that garage into something else and even we wouldn’t mind getting married there.
And because Alex and Dahne are Alex and Dahne, no amount of rain can really dampen their spirits or make them less happy. The very important people in their lives were all present as their future is blessed in a marriage, as they exchange their vows and promise each other a lifetime of love and friendship. Nothing was more important than that.
Alex and Dahne, you know how another couple was booking us on the same date as your wedding? It was in a venue that we’ve always wanted to work in but family always comes first and you, you’re family. The whole day that we were behind our cameras taking snaps of you as you make memories, we see through our lenses not just love between you two but the immense love of your family and friends for you both and there was no other venue we’d rather be. Thank you for choosing us, again. It was such a joy seeing faces we’ve seen five years ago when Alex’s sister, Astrid got married. It was nice to get to hug them again. Thank you for these photographs. We hope they remind you of the rain and shine on that day, how fun and pretty it was and how special in every single way.
And to Caroline, you helped us make these photos as pretty as they are. We may not be allowed to say this but you are by far, our favourite mother of the bride and groom. Thank you for making us feel we’re part of your family. The second time around. xo Meeko & Redge
