WELLINGTON WEDDING | OHARIU FARM | ANATASIA + SAM
“Well I found a woman, stronger than anyone I know
She shares my dreams, I hope that someday I’ll share her home
I found a love, to carry more than just my secrets
To carry love, to carry children of our own
We are still kids, but we’re so in love
Fighting against all odds
I know we’ll be alright this time
Darling, just hold my hand
Be my girl, I’ll be your man
I see my future in your eyes
Baby, I’m dancing in the dark, with you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song
When I saw you in that dress, looking so beautiful
I don’t deserve this, darling, you look perfect tonight.”
I struggled (as I always do) to start writing about this wedding. I spent hours choosing a song (because I cannot write without listening to one) that would take me back to the day. I then typed “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran and thought it sounded familiar in a special way. I know I hear it in the radio a lot but no, it was more than that. Then, I remembered, this was the song this couple danced to on the night of their wedding. They were in the middle of the dance floor being watched by people so many whose hearts seemed to be beating as fast as theirs were.
Then everything that was on that day started to become fresh in my memory. The laughter heard, the tears seen and the happiness felt. From start to end. They say, nothing can beat Wellington on a good day. Well, that day was way beyond perfect. The sun was at its brightest, the wind kept still and the hills in Ohariu Farm
were as alive as they can ever be. And with them all throughout were people who really matter and have been part of their journey in life. It was special in every way.
Sam and Anatasia, thank you for letting us be part of your day. We watched it transpire behind our lenses as your photographers and through our hearts as your friends. The prior was a privilege, the latter, an honour. You both have been truly warm and so have been your families and friends. You made us laugh and cry (okay, just me) and made us feel at home. And for that and so much more, thank you.
Best, M & R
